This utilitarian Design brief was inspired by sixties photographer Irving Penn and his work called ‘Small trades’ shot in Paris, America and London. A collection of photos of working people and labourers. Historically butchers have worn working aprons of blue and white. An apprentice begins with big and small stripes and as they progress, they graduate to large stripes. ‘Earn your Stripes’. A pullover linen drawstring pantsuit that with unsnapping a few fastenings could change to a dress. ‘The Head Turner Jacket’ is a wool coat with which can be worn three ways. One side, upside down and inside out, the printed head following the magic eye theorem of two images in one. Hand cut lino original print.
