Symbols of Life-2024 Design Studio Major

Symbols of life is a learning journey into practicing more sustainably by using whole cloth methods. It is also about how people connect and form identity through their clothing. Using reclaimed knitwear destined for scrap, recycled buttons, inherited vintage remnants and deadstock fabrics. Signs and symbols are woven within the fabric itself and infused with hand printed personal narratives evoking elements of the tools of creation, the scissors and demarcation lines and the extinct Upokororo Grayling fish representing a commitment to preservation and protection of resources and environment.
